Applications

The vast experience we have gained in injection molding over many years of continuous production, research and development allows us to satisfy customers in areas of industry with very different characteristics and specific needs.

Blow Molding

Plastic objects are given a preliminary shape in a “traditional” injection molding machine and then blown to create hollow components such as bottles, jugs or jars. This process first makes a preform and uses blowing to give it the desired final shape. It is particularly suitable for producing objects with a high design content for the home or beauty industry.

2K/3K or Colour

2k/3k or multicomponent molding is a process that uses two or more different materials to create a single plastic object that combines different physical, aesthetic, or functional properties. This technology permits the production of items with soft and hard surfaces or with different colours, without the need for subsequent assembly operations.
It is used to produce both household and technical components comprising plastic and rubber sections in order to ensure that the finished part provides an efficient seal.
Main production methods:
2K technology with transfer: material is first injected into one cavity (the transfer pot) and then transferred to a second mold cavity to which other materials/colours can be added.
Rotational molding: the first material is injected then the mold rotates to allow a second material to be injected; the cycle can be repeated to add a third material.

Overmolding

This process combines the rigidity of metal parts with the versatility of plastic by injecting the plastic material over metal inserts such as screws, steel components, or gaskets. This solution combines appearance with functionality and is commonly used to manufacture robust and functional technical products that include metal inserts.

Aesthetic molding

Mold design is crucial for producing attractive-looking parts as both the functionality of the mold and the beauty of the finished product must be guaranteed. This technique also finds applications in the technical sector. Excellent results can be achieved using the characteristics of the many types of plastic on the market today: bright colours, elaborate textures, and even transparency.

Other molding techniques

Mold construction is a crucial step in the production of plastic components as it allows solutions to be customised for different areas of industry, such as the airsoft, plumbing, electrical, packaging, and construction sectors. The products that Officine DRAG manufactures combine attractive appearance with technical precision and include multi-cavity molds for items of different shape and weight. Thanks to a thorough analysis of the injection channels, molds can be balanced to ensure optimum functionality.
